DTWO partners meet in Madrid to advance digital twin solutions for offshore wind energy

Fri 30 Oct 2026

A central topic of the meeting was the continued development of the DTWO federated digital twin platform, which aims to bring together scientific models, simulation tools and data to support decision-making throughout the offshore wind energy sector.

Partners discussed progress in integrating scientific components and workflows into the platform, alongside improvements to its functionalities and accessibility. Particular attention was given to the experience of those testing the platform, with feedback helping to guide further development and ensure that the tools respond to practical needs.

The General Assembly also provided an opportunity to explore the project’s latest research across several areas of offshore wind energy. Discussions covered wind and wake modelling, atmospheric and environmental conditions, turbine monitoring and maintenance, energy production forecasting, and offshore wind farm planning and optimisation.

These activities contribute to DTWO’s ambition to connect different modelling approaches and develop digital solutions capable of supporting more reliable assessments of offshore wind energy systems.

Another important focus was the transition from research and development towards platform testing, scientific validation and practical applications. Partners exchanged perspectives on how to strengthen the integration of project results, improve the consistency of the available tools and prepare the platform for its next development stages.

The meeting also addressed the project’s communication, dissemination and collaboration activities, including opportunities to share emerging results with the wider offshore wind community and strengthen connections with related European initiatives.

As DTWO progresses towards its final development phase, the Madrid General Assembly represented an important opportunity to align technical priorities, consolidate achievements and reinforce cooperation across the consortium.

A special thank you to RDT for hosting the meeting and to all partners for their contributions and active participation.
