DTWO represented at the BRIDGE General Assembly in Brussels to discuss energy innovation and policy
Thu 27 Mar 2025Leading policymakers, researchers, and industry experts convened on March 25-26, 2025, in Brussels, Belgium, and online for an intensive discussion on the future of energy innovation and policy within the framework of the BRIDGE initiative.
The event, hosted by the European Commission’s DG ENER and supported by CINEA, focused on digitalization, competitiveness, and the transition from research to market deployment in the energy sector. Opening remarks by Vincent Berrutto, Matthias Langemeyer, and Enrico Gaspari set the stage for two days of in-depth discussions, starting with policy updates on the Affordable Energy Action Plan and the Clean Energy Technology Observatory.
The first day of the event featured presentations from the BRIDGE working groups, highlighting achievements from 2024. This was followed by a dynamic exercise designed to foster collaboration among participants. DTWO was represented by Wim Munters, Senior Research Engineer at the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics, who participated in the discussions. “During the exercise, several mature projects shared their experiences with market entry, the challenges they faced, and the barriers to implementing innovation. It was insightful to follow these discussions,” Munters noted.
A key highlight was the panel session on overcoming barriers to innovation, moderated by Luca Passoni, where experts shared insights on successful EU projects such as PlatOne and RomeFlex. The day concluded with an informative session on EU funding opportunities, including CEF Energy, the Innovation Fund, and the European Innovation Council, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of financial support mechanisms available for energy initiatives.
