DTWO at EGU General Assembly 2026

Mon 18 May 2026

Our partner, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), took part in the prestigious EGU General Assembly 2026, contributing to the session “Weather and Climate Services for the Energy Transition”.

The session has brought together leading researchers, meteorological institutions, and energy stakeholders to explore the latest advances in renewable energy meteorology, forecasting, and climate services supporting Europe’s transition to a resilient and sustainable energy system.

During the event, Clara Ducher presented innovative developments in digital twin technologies for renewable energy applications. Her contribution focused on recent extensions of the Plume framework, developed by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts within the Destination Earth initiative. Within DTWO, such a framework has been adapted to support advanced wind farm modelling and the detection of extreme weather events affecting renewable energy systems.

The presentation, titled “Unlocking Renewable Energy Insights with Plume: Extensions for Wind Energy and Beyond”, has demonstrated how DTWO contributes to improving operational renewable energy forecasting through modular, high-performance digital tools designed for next-generation Earth system models.
