Advancing Offshore Wind Power: DTWO’s 2nd General Assembly in Gdańsk, Poland
Wed 22 Jan 2025For the Second General Assembly, the DTWO consortium gathered to engage in fruitful exchanges and collaborative planning, driving progress in the creation of the digital twin to forecast offshore wind power production. The meeting took place over one and a half days in Gdańsk, Poland.
Hosted by the Gdańsk University of Technology, one of the DTWO partners, the event began with an introduction by Bogdan Wiszniewski.
This gathering marked an important milestone as the partners reviewed the progress of the first 7 months of the project. The event provided an invaluable opportunity for partners to collaborate, fostering inter-module exchanges and group discussions among partners from different disciplines.
Expert Insights from the External Executive Advisory Board
A key highlight of the assembly was the presentation to the External Executive Advisory Board, whose members bring an impressive breadth of expertise to the project:
- Tobias Ahsbahs: Senior Research and Development Engineer at EMD International, with extensive experience in mechanical engineering, wind resource assessment, big data analysis, and remote sensing.
- Ken Kasriel: Energy Economist at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, focusing on offshore inter-farm losses, marine spatial planning, legal frameworks, and policy aspects, backed by a PhD in wind energy and remote sensing.
- Rafael Mudafort: Senior Researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Rafael brings extensive experience in wind energy research, particularly from his work at the National Wind Technology Center in Colorado, USA.
- Henrik Vedel: Senior Researcher at the Weather Research Department of the Danish Meteorological Institute. Henrik has authored over 50 publications on topics such as wind power predictions, solidifying his expertise in the field.
- Xiaohua Yang: Chief Consultant at the Danish Meteorological Institute. Xiaohua’s expertise lies in numerical weather forecasting, and he holds a PhD in mesoscale dynamics.
- Mark Zagar: Senior Specialist in Energy Meteorology at VESTAS. Mark applies his PhD in mathematical modeling, physics, and technology management to advance wind plant design, performance prediction, and resource assessment.
The insights and guidance provided by these experts are instrumental as the DTWO project continues to break new ground in renewable energy.
