DTWO launches video on its vision for Offshore Wind energy
Mon 24 Feb 2025The Federated Digital Twins for Wind-Offshore (DTWO) project has published an explainer video on its ambition to improve forecasting, optimise wind farm design, and ensure reliable performance predictions.
By developing an open-source digital twin, the DTWO project enables simulations of entire wind farms, extreme weather events, and future offshore projects to enhance energy production forecasting. The technology ensures accurate performance predictions for both bottom-fixed and floating wind farms, contributing to a more resilient and efficient energy grid and accelerating progress toward climate neutrality.
The coordinator from the Technical University of Denmark, Professor Xiaoli Larsén, said “through interactions with Digital Earth Digital twin, our project DTWO will systematically add wind turbines and wind farms into the forecasting and the outcome will be used in digital twin modules for specific applications”.
The DTWO project is a collaborative effort spanning nine countries, working on five test scenarios over a three-year period. With a strong focus on innovation, the initiative aims to achieve a 15% increase in the accuracy of short-term energy forecasting, ensuring more reliable and efficient offshore wind power generation.

October marked a major step for DTWO with the Third General Assembly held on 25- 26 September in Warsaw (Poland). The meeting provided a chance to assess progress, exchange ideas, and prepare for what’s next for the project.

In the internal DTWO workshop, held on 29 September, ECMWF introduced to DTWO partners Destination Earth (DestinE), an ambitious project to develop a digital twin of our planet.
